What Does This Mean For Us?

Our aim is for everyone who engages with Foundry Roasters to feel valued and cared for. This committment extends through our sustainable coffee careers, our relationship with producers, and the way we roast the final cup for our customers. We take great pride in the sustainable foundations we have established and the ongoing efforts we make to ensure that our team, our planet, and our community, both globally and locally, can flourish for many years to come. We are also deeply greatful to each of you for being part of our community and for helping us to become the kind of company we aspire to be.

Economic

Sustainability

Every cup of coffee carries a  unique story about the producer behind it. Our green buyers journey to the origin of the coffee to cultivate direct relationships with these producers. The approach allows us to gain better understanding into the various challenges they encounter, thus equiping us  to tackle issures related to coffee sustainability more effectively. We firmly believe that everyone deserves to earn a living wage, which is why we pay farmers fair prices based on their production costs, rather than simply adhering to market pricing.

We are also dedicated to ensuring that all members of our team receive a living wage, regardless of their position in the company. Our focus is empowering individuals by providing opportunities to pursue their passions and excel in their roles. To support this committment, we offer a well-being program that includes everything from weekly coffee to an annual stipend for personal growth and wellness development.

Social

Sustainability

Foundry Roasters operates under the principle that successful business starts with treating your team well. When individuals are happy and healthy, they can create a truly welcoming experiences for ur guest, while also living their lives to the fullest and contributing their unique talents to their communities. Thriving companies often owe much of their success to the communities they serve. We strive to be a positive and active force in the community we cherish. For us. this envolves:

  • Partnering with local businesses and organizations.

  • Support local artists to foster creativity.

  • Dedicating time and resources to organizations such as LOVEHuntsville, Shady Ridge Farms, and inititives like our Ironwood Project.

On a global scale, we have teamed up with charity: water who partners with local organizations to build sustainable community-owned projects around the world. With the generous support from donations and proceeds from our "Product of Change", we are committed to providing clean water and ongoing support to help provide education, income, dignity, and health - especially in woman and children.

Environmental

Sustainability

GLOBALLY

Our green buyers partner with importers, farmers, and cooperatives who are inversting at the farm levels to address environmental issues related to climate change, habitat preservation, and reducing pollution. Our green buyers carefully assess hundreds of coffees every year, identifying the most sustainable, transparency-minded, quality-focused producers to build relationship with.

LOCALLY

ALL-ELECTRIC ROASTING

We are striving to lower our carbon footprint by first adopting electric coffee roasting. Traditioanl gas-powered coffee roasters send smoke, particulates, and volitile organic compounds (VOCs) - similar to those found in aerosol sprays - into the air with every roast cycle. With the United States alone producing over 8 billion pounds of roasted coffee every year, the harmful impact of these emissions is not sustainable for our planet or healthy for the people who live on it.

Our all-electric Bellwether Roaster is the first, and only, commercial coffee roaster to remove particulates and VOCs from the roasting process through clean technology. The recirculating design captures and utilizes thermal energy that other roasters vent through exhaust stacks. Air that exists a Bellwether Roaster during a roast cycle is cleaner than the air going in, reducing the carbon footprint of coffee roasting by an average of 90%.

SUSTAINABLE 10oz PACKAGING

With the help of our partners at PBFY, our 10oz retail Biotre 2.0 coffee bags are made to reduce our environmental impact. Biotre® coffee bags are made from 60% (by weight) renewable plant-based resources and the remaining 40% breaks down into healthy compost using processes from OECD and conditions taken from ASTM standards. The material is earth friendly and heat sealable keeping the roasted coffee beans as fresh as possible.

SUSTAINABLE BACKING

We offer 25 cents off of any pour-over if you bring your own cup. Foundry Roasters contributes a percentage of our proceeds from each pound of coffee sold to support our Ironwood Project which provides grants to assist various sustainable initiatives alongside our wholesale partners.

With the profits generated from our "Products of Change",  we are dedicated to offering resources that support local honeybee populations and promote sustainable beekeeping practices.

RECYCLING

At Foundry Roasters, we embrace the concept of turning discarded coffee by-products into innovative and reusable materials. We collaborate with Shady Ridge Farms to reduce waste, conserve resources, and decrease landfill usage by donating the following products:

  • Jute bags for weed prevention

  • Coffee chaff for composting

  • Ground coffee for pest control
