Farm Story and Impact: Café Sierra Azul is a small cooperative composed of around 300 smallholder farmers living within the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve in Mexico's Chiapas State. The cooperative was established by 37 members in August 2010 in the municipality of Siltepec which is located in the southeast region of Chiapas.
These founding members were young people, the children of producers, who wanted to find a way to create sustainable livelihoods without resorting to immigration into the US. The cooperative provides access to better markets and financing for its producers in addition to technical assistance and social projects. The organization aims to be an instrument of development for small producers.
